4 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE GETTING PERMANENT EYELINER

WHAT IS PERMANENT EYELINER?

As a beauty and makeup professional in Raleigh, NC, I get asked this question a lot. What is permanent eyeliner? Is it a tattoo? Is it a particular brand of makeup? Is it really permanent? These are all valid and reasonable questions to ask if you've never gone through the process of getting the procedure done. In reality, it's a tattoo with pigments made especially for your eyes. It won't age poorly and it's recommended that you do a "boost" treatment to refresh the pigment every 3 years. Sometimes permanent eyeliner is also referred to as micropigmentation, micropigment implantation, or dermagraphics depending on where you research the beauty treatments in Raleigh.

So why does this type of tattoo need a "boost" while normal tattoos don’t? The eyeliner I apply doesn't penetrate your skin nearly as deep as a normal tattoo would, so over time it will fade but can be touched up when needed. For a lot of people, they fall into the trap of reading the word permanent and assume it will last for decades when this isn’t the case. This also provides people with a ‘safety net’ of sorts, knowing that the eyeliner will fade in the event you change your mind later on down the road.

HOW LONG DOES PERMANENT EYELINER LAST?

The next question that might pop into your head is; if permanent eyeliner doesn’t last decades like a normal tattoo, then how long does it last? As I've mentioned, this type of tattoo doesn’t penetrate nearly as deep as normal tattoos, so it will last up to 3 years. This all depends on how much time you spend outside, how much and how regularly you wash your face, and with what products, but generally speaking up to 3 years is the length of time you should expect a permanent eyeliner to last. Our designs are sure to help you age gracefully, so I recommend a boost every 3 years for optimal beauty and an age-appropriate look.

DOES THIS EYELINER BEAUTY TREATMENT HURT?

Another big question I get asked a lot is about how painful the process of permanent eyeliner can be. A lot of people associate tattoos with the pain, swelling, and discomfort they can cause during, as well as after the process. However, permanent eyeliner is different in that I use only the best numbing agents to make the beauty treatment as painless as possible. Most of the people I apply this treatment to become pleasantly surprised at the lack of pain involved. The sensation is often described by my clients as a mild vibration.

Clients that come to me in Raleigh often question how safe the beauty treatment can be. Following sterilization and disinfection guidelines creates an environment where permanent cosmetics should be completely safe. Professionals of the permanent cosmetic industry, myself included, attend Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) classes frequently to ensure all guidelines are met for the safety of our clients. Your health and wellbeing are paramount in everything that I do.

HOW DO I FIND A PERMANENT EYELINER PROFESSIONAL IN NORTH CAROLINA?

When looking for a professional for any permanent cosmetic treatment, you should always ask about their credentials, training, and take a look into their portfolio. You should also ask about their compliance with state laws for North Carolina and local county laws that apply in regards to their work. You may also want to research their before and after photos. Professionally qualified and educated technicians know how to complement skin tone with the coloring of specific types of ink, and will work with you to get the outcome you're looking for.
